Balagne is the balcony of north-west Corsica, a stretch of hillside villages descending to the sea between Calvi and L’Île-Rousse. It was long known as the garden of Corsica for its olive groves, orchards and terraced vineyards. The coast strings together some thirty kilometres of beaches and coves: the Pinède in Calvi, Algajola beneath its small citadel, Davia and Bodri on the commune of Corbara, Ghjunchitu, reached on foot, then Lozari and the mouth of the Ostriconi towards the east. Above them, the villages of Corbara, Monticello, Pigna, Lumio and Sant’Antonino all look out to sea.
Our villas in Balagne are spread between Corbara and its Marine de Davia, Monticello, Pigna and Lumio, with a few addresses in Calvi and L’Île-Rousse. All have a pool, most a sea view, and three to five bedrooms. The right area depends on your stay: Marine de Davia and Lumio for a beach a few minutes away, the heights of Corbara and Monticello to overlook the bay ten minutes from L’Île-Rousse, Pigna for the artisans’ village and the quiet. Hilltop villages that look out to sea
In Balagne, life is lived at two heights: the village terrace in the evening, the beach below in the morning.
Sant’Antonino, perched at nearly 500m on its granite spur, is one of the oldest villages on the island and the only one in Corsica listed among the Plus Beaux Villages de France: a maze of vaulted lanes and a panorama that takes in the whole of Balagne down to the sea. Pigna, just below, has made music and craftsmanship its identity, with its luthiers’ and ceramists’ workshops and the Casa Musicale, which has hosted artists in residence and concerts since 1985. Corbara watches over its baroque church, Aregno over its Romanesque church of the Trinity, and Calenzana marks the start of the GR20.
On the coast, the beach train links L’Île-Rousse to Calvi in three quarters of an hour, stopping at every cove, Algajola, Davia or Bodri, and remains the loveliest way to choose the day’s swim. The tables follow the same rhythm: in Lumio, La Table di Mà, awarded a star in the 2026 Michelin Guide, looks over the bay of Calvi; in the villages, dinner is served in granite courtyards. The terroir shows in glass and plate alike, with the wines of the Corse Calvi appellation, from Clos Culombu in Lumio to Domaine d’Alzipratu in Zilia, and the olive oil from the valley’s mills. Summer on the beaches, late season in the villages
High summer
From June to September, the day is set by the sea: Bodri and Ghjunchitu on foot first thing, Algajola for children and paddleboarding, the Pinède in Calvi for lunch with your feet in the sand. By boat from L’Île-Rousse, the Agriates desert opens onto Saleccia and Lotu, two beaches with no road. In the evening, you climb back to the village for the cool of the terraces, a concert in Pigna or a stroll around Place Paoli and the covered market of L’Île-Rousse.
The shoulder seasons
In spring and autumn the sea stays mild, around 19 to 22°C in May, June and September, and Balagne finds its own pace again. It is the season for trails, from Notre-Dame de la Serra above Calvi to the Bonifatu cirque, for the grape harvest and the olive mills, and for the Rencontres de Chants Polyphoniques in Calvi’s citadel in September. Villages are visited unhurried, tables booked without a wait.

What are the most beautiful beaches in Balagne?
Bodri and Ghjunchitu, two neighbouring coves west of L’Île-Rousse, rank among the finest on the island, and the second is reached on foot from the first. Algajola offers a long sandy beach beneath its citadel, Davia a quiet cove at the foot of Corbara’s villas, Lozari and the Ostriconi wider, wilder spaces towards the east. In Calvi, the Pinède and the coves of the Revellata complete the list. Saleccia and Lotu, in the Agriates, are reached by boat from L’Île-Rousse.
How do I get to Balagne?
Calvi Sainte-Catherine airport is about twenty minutes from the villas, with direct flights from Paris, Nice or Marseille depending on the season. Ferries dock at L’Île-Rousse and Calvi from Nice, Toulon or Marseille, again depending on the season. Once there, a car remains essential to move between villages and beaches, even though the beach train serves the coast in summer.
How does booking work?
Stays are booked by the week, Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday depending on the property. You choose your week on the calendar, send your request, and our team confirms availability. Booking is done online, with secure payment and the option to pay in instalments.
What capacity for a family or group?
Our villas in Balagne have three to five bedrooms, for six to ten guests, all with a pool. For a large party or specific request, write to us: we also work with off-market properties.
How does arrival on site work?
You are welcomed by a local partner agency on site, who carries out the inventory and passes on practical information to you. For some properties, autonomous arrival can be arranged on request.
