Renting in Île-Rousse

Rent a villa or apartment in Île-Rousse with AEC Collection

Île-Rousse presents three distinct characters. The first is the historic centre, gathered around Place Paoli, a shaded esplanade of century-old plane trees where the covered market and its colonnades meet the café terraces and everyday life. An apartment in these narrow streets puts the town within arm’s reach: the morning market, the port, an early swim before coffee. The second character is the Pietra peninsula to the north, which extends into the sea with its lighthouse and islets of red porphyry, the very stones that gave the town its name; here you’ll find addresses facing the open water and the sunset, a shade quieter still.

The third character is the sea to the east and the Balagne beyond. Napoleon and Caruchettu beaches border the town, whilst Bodri, Ghjunchitu and, further on, the long bay of Lozari are reached within minutes. Behind them, the hills rise towards the perched villages of Pigna, Corbara, Sant’Antonino and Monticello. For a villa with pool and bay views, look to the heights that overlook the town; to reach the sand on foot each morning, stay near the shore; to live by the rhythm of the old streets, choose the historic heart. Tell us how you envision your stay, and we’ll guide you to the right neighbourhood. Bookings are by the week, the calendar and availability shown are current, and reservation is made online.

The spirit of Île-Rousse

Paoli’s port, open to the Balagne

Île-Rousse was conceived for the sea, and it has never taken its eyes off it.

The town was born in the eighteenth century from Pascal Paoli’s vision to give independent Corsica a port capable of rivalling Calvi, which then remained Genoese. From this foundation it retains a clear plan, a central square that still pulses with life, Place Paoli, and a covered market whose colonnades filter the early morning light. Nothing ostentatious here: a town of character that has kept its habits, its daily market, its card players beneath the plane trees.

The setting does the rest. Red porphyry islets and the Pietra peninsula, crowned with its lighthouse, enclose the anchorage; the little Balagne train runs along the coast to Calvi, serving some of the finest beaches; and the hinterland unfolds its villages clinging to the rock, its olive trees and the scents of the maquis. Our villas and apartments are chosen for their location, views and tranquillity, steps from the sea and the old streets alike.

Through the seasons

The summer seaside, the fragrant shoulder season

High summer

From June, the town lives outdoors. Beach follows beach: Napoleon and Caruchettu at the foot of the houses, Bodri and Ghjunchitu with their crystalline water, the great bay of Lozari for those seeking space and water sports. The little train connects the coves along the coast, the covered market comes alive each morning, and the beach bars take over as the sun sets over the Pietra.

Shoulder season

In spring and autumn, the Balagne reveals itself differently. The maquis flowers (gorse, cistus, lavender) and exhales its scents of myrtle and mastic, the coastal path to the Pietra lighthouse or Bodri beach is walked without haste, and the hinterland opens up: the perched villages, the ruins of Occi, the Regino valley. The sea remains pleasant late into the season, the tables regain their calm, and the light grows softer on the terracotta roofs.

Frequently asked questions

Renting in Île-Rousse: what we’re asked

Which neighbourhood to choose in Île-Rousse?

It depends on your stay. The historic centre, around Place Paoli and the covered market, puts everything within walking distance and suits those who enjoy town life. The Pietra peninsula offers the open sea and greater tranquillity. The edges of the shoreline to the east bring the beaches within a towel’s reach. And the heights, towards Monticello and the Balagne hills, offer sweeping bay views.

Can you rent a villa with pool and sea views?

Yes. Villas with pools are found mainly on the heights that overlook the town and in the Balagne villages, where views reach to the sea. Closer to the sand, our selection also includes apartments and houses within minutes of the beaches. Tell us what matters most to you, beach access or views, and we’ll guide accordingly.

What is the best time for a stay in Île-Rousse?

High summer, from June to September, for full seaside life and swimming. Spring and early autumn for gentler weather, flowering maquis, coastal paths and a quieter hinterland. The sea remains pleasant until October in some years.
