Peisey-Vallandry is not a resort built to plan, but a municipality, Peisey-Nancroix, whose hamlets have opened to skiing without abandoning their geography. At the valley floor, Landry serves as the gateway, with its station and the Church of Saint-Michel perched on a wooded spur at the entrance to the Ponturin valley. Higher up, the village of Peisey lines its stone and timber houses around the baroque Church of the Holy Trinity, then the road climbs towards Nancroix, a hamlet that has remained very rural, as far as the Rosuel valley which marks the entrance to Vanoise National Park. On the sunny slope, two village-stations offer ski-at-your-feet access: Plan-Peisey, at 1612m, where the Vanoise Express departs, and Vallandry, its neighbour on the Les Arcs side, backed by the larch forest.
The choice is less about square metres than about the rhythm you wish to set for the week. Plan-Peisey suits those who want to put on skis at the foot of the cable car and switch to La Plagne before the first break in the morning. Vallandry, more spread out among the larches, offers direct ski-to-door returns, open views and quieter evenings. Peisey and Nancroix appeal to those who prefer to sleep in the village, to hear the mountain stream rather than the snow-grooming machine, and to reach the pistes in a few minutes. The larch, the baroque and the gateway to Vanoise
Here, forest begins where the hamlet ends, and Vanoise National Park is within a trail’s reach.
Before skiing, this valley lived from pastoral farming and mining. Lead and silver mines worked from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century made Peisey-Nancroix a place of engineers: the Palais de la Mine, at the end of a larch-lined avenue near Pont Baudin, housed the French School of Mines from 1802 to 1814. The interpretive trail of the Monts d’Argent still tells this story in the open air. The same period left a rich baroque heritage, from hamlet chapels to the Church of the Holy Trinity, to the Sanctuary of Notre-Dame des Vernettes, perched at the forest edge facing the north face of Bellecôte.
Skiing came later, without erasing the rest. The municipality numbers only a few hundred year-round residents, and the village-stations of Plan-Peisey and Vallandry have kept a human scale, built largely in wood, quite distinct from the large high-altitude neighbouring resorts. The turning point came in December 2003, when the Vanoise Express connected Peisey-Vallandry to La Plagne and gave birth to Paradiski: suddenly, a larch hamlet found itself at the centre of one of Europe’s largest interconnected ski domains, without acquiring either its noise or its excess. This is precisely what families who return year after year come seeking. Our chalets and apartments are selected for their location, view and the quiet of the hamels, with straightforward access to the pistes and the valley.
Two seasons, the same valley
Winter
Peisey-Vallandry opens onto Paradiski, the area formed by Les Arcs, Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne, or approximately 425km of connected pistes. From Plan-Peisey, the Vanoise Express, a two-storey cable car, crosses the valley to La Plagne in under four minutes: you can ski two domains in a single day without returning to your car. The local character is forest skiing, with pistes winding between larches, highly appreciated in poor visibility and reassuring for children. Experienced skiers head for Aiguille Rouge, above 3000m, and its 7km descent with 2000m vertical to Villaroger. At the valley floor, the Peisey-Nancroix cross-country site offers nearly 30km of trails and a biathlon stadium, as a starting point towards Vanoise National Park. After-ski centres on the village, snowshoeing towards Notre-Dame des Vernettes rather than a crowded terrace.
Summer
In summer, the resort becomes what it first is: a hiking valley. The Rosuel valley is one of the finest entrances to Vanoise National Park, with a landscape interpretation trail and the GR5 footpath. From there, itineraries lead to high-altitude lakes and mountain huts, within a day or over several stages, with good chances of spotting marmots, chamois and ibex. The Park’s information centre helps you plan your route according to your level. Families often stay lower, in the larch forests and alpine pastures around Nancroix, walking in shade along the Ponturin. Mountain biking and trail running find generous terrain here, and the Palais de la Mine can be visited to understand what the mountain produced before skiing.

Plan-Peisey or Vallandry: which to choose?
Plan-Peisey is the departure point for the Vanoise Express: it is the best choice if you plan to switch to La Plagne often. Vallandry, somewhat more spread out and set well within the larches, offers direct ski-to-door access and returns, with open views over the Vanoise. Both are connected to the same domain. If you are primarily seeking village atmosphere, look instead at Peisey or Nancroix, lower in the valley.
Can you ski all of Paradiski from Peisey-Vallandry?
Yes, with the appropriate pass. The Les Arcs / Peisey-Vallandry domain can be skied directly from the resort’s pistes, and the Vanoise Express, departing from Plan-Peisey, gives access to La Plagne in under four minutes. This is what makes Peisey-Vallandry distinctive: a human-scale village-station set on one of Europe’s largest interconnected domains.
Is Peisey-Vallandry worth a stay in summer?
It is actually one of its best seasons. The municipality borders Vanoise National Park via the Rosuel valley, with trails for all abilities, high-altitude lakes, mountain huts and wildlife easily spotted. The larch forests and alpine pastures of Nancroix suit family walks, mountain biking and trail running complete the picture, and the baroque heritage as well as the Palais de la Mine offer fine outings on rainy days.
