Les Saisies does not read as a single, continuous resort. The village stretches across a pass at 1650m, between Beaufortain and Val d’Arly, and extends into quarters, each with its own character. The resort centre concentrates shops, ski schools and piste access: the obvious choice when you want to walk everywhere, skis on shoulder, and return for lunch without thinking twice. Les Hauts-Lieux and La Traie, set slightly back, retain the same access to the domain with noticeably quieter evenings. La Forêt des Saisies, between the village and Signal de Bisanne, lives up to its name: chalets nestled among spruces, minutes from the lifts, for those seeking snow and silence.
Lower down, Bisanne 1500 faces due south at 1500m altitude, with a wide panorama across Beaufortain and Mont-Blanc, and direct access to the Signal de Bisanne pistes: the right address for those seeking morning-to-evening light and a residential atmosphere. Hauteluce, finally, is a true Savoyard village at 1100m, with a bulbous church spire and old farms along the valley, connected to the domain by lifts higher up. You stay there for authenticity and the generous proportions of renovated farmhouses rather than for proximity to the pistes. A pass between alpine meadows and Mont-Blanc
Here, you ski amongst spruces and alpine farm buildings, with the Mont-Blanc massif set before you like a backdrop you never tire of.
Before it was a resort, Les Saisies was a pass, a passage between Beaufortain and Val d’Arly used by herds and carts. This origin is still visible: no monumental snow front, but a village of chalets with pitched roofs, all timber and wide eaves, affectionately called French Tyrol. The second reputation of the place rests on the weather. Exposed to westerly flows and situated on its pass, the area receives abundant and regular snow, to the point of earning the nickname Savoy’s snow store.
Beaufortain has kept its mountain economy, and that changes everything about the atmosphere. Cattle ascend to alpine pastures in summer, milk descends to the Beaufortain Dairy Cooperative, and Beaufort cheese, summer cheese and chalet cheese alike, remains the valley’s true draw, well before the mechanical lifts. The other local pride is Nordic: the plateau hosted the cross-country skiing and biathlon events of the 1992 Albertville Olympic Games, and the resort has retained a Nordic domain among the highest and best-snowed in the Alps. Our chalets and apartments are chosen for location, view and tranquillity, with a preference for properties opening due south across the alpine pastures and Mont-Blanc.
Two seasons, one same alpine meadow landscape
Winter
Les Saisies opens onto the Espace Diamant, approximately 192km of pistes linking six villages in Beaufortain and Val d’Arly: Hauteluce, Crest-Voland, Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe, Flumet, Praz-sur-Arly and Les Saisies. The domain spans between 1200m and 2100m approximately, extensively forested, with a majority of accessible pistes: this is family terrain and for intermediate skiers, where you progress by changing aspect rather than seeking steep slopes. Stronger skiers chiefly find pleasure in long traverses from village to village and the return via Signal de Bisanne, facing Mont-Blanc. Alongside, Nordic skiing holds a rare place: approximately 120km of cross-country pistes on the 1992 Olympic site, accessible from the village in both skate and classic style. Après-ski revolves around the fireside and Beaufort cheese, not nightclubs.
Summer
The resort opens in summer and runs a few lifts, Légette, Chard du Beurre and Bisanne, to serve the mountain-bike area and high-altitude access. It is clear mountain-walking country: trails ascending from alp to alp, farm buildings where you buy cheese direct from the farm, and that Mont-Blanc view accompanying nearly every itinerary. Lac des Saisies, closer to a wooded peat bog than a classical high-altitude lake, is reached as a family outing. Exposed ridges delight paragliders and climbers, and you need only descend into the valley to reach Beaufort, its cooperatives, then the great reservoir lakes and Beaufortain passes, legendary terrain for cyclists.

Which quarter to choose at Les Saisies?
The resort centre if you want shops, ski schools and piste access on foot. Les Hauts-Lieux, La Traie or La Forêt des Saisies to remain minutes from the lifts with considerably more peace. Bisanne 1500 for due-south exposure, the Mont-Blanc panorama and direct access to Signal de Bisanne pistes. Hauteluce, lower down, for a true Savoyard village and characterful houses, accepting the need for a car or shuttle to ski.
Les Saisies, rather alpine or cross-country skiing?
Both, and that is rare enough to mention. Alpine skiing is practised over the Espace Diamant, a large linked and forested domain, very accommodating to families and intermediate levels. Cross-country skiing is a signature of the place: the resort hosted the Nordic events of the 1992 Albertville Olympic Games and retains a vast Nordic domain starting from the village. Many stays here combine both, with a day of cross-country or snowshoeing mid-week.
Is Les Saisies worth a stay in summer?
Yes, provided you favour pastoral mountain country over high-altitude mineral terrain. Beaufortain remains inhabited, with its alpine pastures, herds and cheese-making, and trails offer an almost constant view of Mont-Blanc. Walking, mountain biking with a few lifts open, paragliding, climbing and family outings around Lac des Saisies, then the Beaufortain passes and reservoir lakes within driving distance: the resort works very well outside the snow season, and often in quiet.
