Les Carroz sits on a wide sunny balcony at 1140m, overlooking the Arve valley, with views towards the Mont-Blanc massif. The heart of the village can be crossed on foot in minutes: the high street and its shops, the central square, and the Kédeuze cable car departing from the village centre itself. Staying here means putting your boots on next to the departure point, going out to dinner without taking the car, and living the week at the village’s pace. It is the choice of families who want everything within reach, and groups who like their evening to extend just a few steps from the door.
Above and around, the plateau stretches out in gentle slopes and scattered hamlets. The chalets are more spaced out, the view opens clearly onto the valley and the peaks, and silence returns as soon as night falls. Allow a few minutes by car or a shuttle to reach the lifts: this is the price of calm and horizon, and many willingly pay it. The municipality of Arâches-la-Frasse moreover encompasses two other villages, Arâches and La Frasse, even more discreet, where a mountain way of life continues beyond the ski season. A village that the resort never erased
Here, skiing came to graft itself onto a mountain village, and not the other way around: that is all the difference.
Until the 1930s, Les Carroz was nothing more than a small agricultural hamlet of a few houses perched on its plateau, above an Arve valley that lived by watchmaking and metalworking. The resort was born in 1936, and the first ski tow was inaugurated in 1939: at the time, the longest in Europe. The village grew without denying itself, in wood and stone, without apartment blocks or monumental snow fronts. Year-round residents still walk its streets, and you hear this in the tone of conversations.
The major turning point came in 1981, when the connection to Flaine, Samoëns, Morillon and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval gave birth to the Grand Massif. Les Carroz inherited a considerable domain while maintaining a village scale: it is this contrast that brings the same families back year after year, and explains why people come to ski six days straight as much as to do nothing but walk and look. A balcony to be lived in two seasons
Winter
From the village centre, the Kédeuze cable car reaches the heart of the domain in six minutes, and from there the Grand Massif opens up: approximately 265km of linked pistes between Les Carroz, Flaine, Samoëns, Morillon and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, between 1140m and 2500m. It is an ideal playground for confident skiers who want to cover kilometres without ever repeating the same day, and for families who appreciate skiing back to the village via forest runs, more sheltered when the weather turns. In the evening, après-ski happens at the village, in the bars along the high street and on the square, on foot, without shuttle or car.
Summer
The Kédeuze remains open for walkers and mountain bikers, and the village returns to a plateau rhythm: hikes to the altitude lakes such as Lac de l’Airon or Lac de Vernant, themed trails departing from the village, more challenging routes towards the limestone high plateaux above Flaine. The bike park operates between 1760m and 1140m for those who prefer to descend fast, and there is also a rail luge and a water park for family days. Add the weekly market, open-air concerts and producers from the valley: summer at Les Carroz is lived outdoors, from morning to evening, without any effort.

Is it better to stay in the village centre or on the plateau heights?
The village centre puts the Kédeuze cable car, shops and restaurants within walking distance: this is the most practical choice, especially with children or without a car. The plateau heights and hamlets offer in exchange more space, more peace and an open view over the valley, with just a few minutes’ journey to reach the lifts. Can you ski the entire Grand Massif from Les Carroz?
Yes. Les Carroz is one of the gateways to the Grand Massif, linked since 1981 to Flaine, Samoëns, Morillon and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, or approximately 265km of pistes accessible on skis. The cable car departs from the village centre, so you reach the domain in a few minutes without needing to take the car.
Is Les Carroz worth a stay in summer?
Many of our guests come first in winter, then return in summer. The plateau is sunny, the cable car operates for walkers and mountain bikers, and the trails lead to both altitude lakes and the high plateaux of the Grand Massif. With the bike park, rail luge and water park, it is a comfortable base for a week as a family, within short distance of Geneva via the Arve valley.

Stays are booked by the week, Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday depending on the property. You select your week on the calendar, send your request, and our team confirms availability. Booking is done online, with secure payment and the option to pay in instalments.
What capacity for a family or group?
Our selection ranges from apartments for a few to large chalets for the whole tribe. For a large group or a specific request, write to us: we also compose with off-market properties.
How does arrival on site work?
You are welcomed by a local partner agency present on site, who conducts the handover and provides you with practical information. For some properties, independent arrival can be arranged upon request.
