La Rosière cannot be read in one go. The historic centre, around the tourist office, has retained the silhouette of a Savoyard village: stone and wood chalets, pedestrian circulation, terraces facing due south towards the valley. Les Eucherts, a more recent district, concentrates the ski-front, shops, ice rink and wellness area; it is the sector for families who want to do everything without getting back in the car. Below, the village of Montvalezan and hamlets such as Le Châtelard offer another scale, rural and quiet, a few minutes’ drive from the resort.
The choice comes down less to comfort than to the pace you want to set for the week. A couple who ski early and dine late will do well in the centre, near restaurants and lifts. A tribe with children who are learning will benefit from settling in Les Eucherts, where the return runs arrive at the foot of the residences and where evening activities are within walking distance. Those seeking above all quiet and views, those of Mont-Blanc and the peaks of the Haute-Tarentaise, will look at properties set apart, at the edge of the resort or in the hamlets. A balcony facing due south, Italy at the end of your skis
Here, the mountain is viewed head-on: Mont-Blanc fills the horizon, and the Italian border can be crossed without leaving your skis.
La Rosière was born of a location before it became a resort. At 1850m, on a sheltered plateau with a due-south exposure, a few alpage hamlets built in stone to withstand the wind were visited only in good weather. Winter tourism settled here in the mid-20th century, yet never erased the village scale: the resort remains low, compact, turned towards light rather than spectacle. This exposure explains the atmosphere as much as the skiing, with sunny terraces from morning onwards, long daylight hours, and a slower relationship to time than in the neighbouring large ski factories.
The other distinguishing feature is geography. The resort sits on the route of the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass, a historic passage into the Val d’Aoste, with its hospice and the Chanousia alpine botanical garden at 2170m. Since 1984, that same pass has linked La Rosière and the Italian resort of La Thuile by ski, under the name Espace San Bernardo: you leave in the morning in Savoy, have lunch in Aosta Valley, return in the afternoon facing Mont-Blanc. Two sides of the same border
Winter
The Espace San Bernardo exceeds 150km of runs between 1190m and 2800m, split across both sides of the pass. The French side has wide sunny runs, well-sized beginner zones and terrain ideal for families to progress. The Italian side of La Thuile changes register entirely: more technical, steeper, with long forest descents down to the valley. Above, the Mont Valaisan sector, opened in 2018, gives access to red and black runs and a supervised freeride area, up to the domain’s highest point at 2800m. Days without skiing are far from lacking: snowshoeing, husky sledding, ice rink, wellness area, and terraces facing Mont-Blanc.
Summer
The Petit-Saint-Bernard pass road reopens in fine weather and becomes the resort’s main axis. Cyclists climb it for the ascent and views of the glaciers, walkers push on to Lac Verney, on the Italian side, and to the Chanousia botanical garden, open in summer. Mountain biking holds a real place, with a bikepark, rolling trails and a cross-border link open to mountain bikes and electric-assisted bikes. The rest happens at alpage level: family hikes, high-altitude lake fishing, marmot watching, and a very open sky that the due-south exposure keeps bright late into the evening.

Historic centre or Les Eucherts: which district to choose?
The centre retains the village feel, with old chalets, restaurants and pedestrian circulation around the tourist office. Les Eucherts is more recent and lively, with the ski-front, shops, ice rink and wellness area within immediate reach: it is often the best choice with young children. For more quiet and views back over the valley, you should look at properties on the edge of the resort or towards the hamlets, accepting a few minutes’ drive.
Can you really ski in Italy from La Rosière?
Yes, it is even the signature of the domain. The Espace San Bernardo link passes through the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass and reaches La Thuile, in the Val d’Aoste, with a lift pass covering both sides. Many skiers cross in the morning to have lunch on the Italian side and return in late afternoon. Plan to leave early and keep a margin for the return: the link depends on lift opening hours and weather conditions in the high-altitude sectors.
Is La Rosière worth visiting in summer?
Yes, provided you enjoy calm, active mountains. The Petit-Saint-Bernard pass, accessible by car, bike or shuttle, opens onto Lac Verney and the Chanousia botanical garden, and attracts cyclists coming for the ascent. Mountain biking has a bikepark and a cross-border link, and hikes cover all levels, from alpage walks to high-altitude itineraries. The due-south exposure makes evenings particularly long and bright.

Stays are booked by the week, Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday depending on the property. You choose your week from the calendar, send your request, and our team confirms availability. Booking is done online, with secure payment and the option to pay in instalments.
What capacity for a family or group?
