Rent a villa or apartment in Erbalunga with AEC Collection
Erbalunga fits within a few hundred metres: a harbour of slate-built houses clustered around a tiny port, paved alleyways descending to the water, and at the end of the point a ruined Genoese tower. You rent here for two opposite and complementary reasons. Either the harbour itself, where everything is done on foot, the port, the Church of Saint Erasmus, the evening tables, and where you hear the sea lapping against the quays all night. Or the heights, in the hamlets of Brando commune perched above the village, overlooking the sea across slate roofs: here you find houses with land, terraces and often a pool, a few minutes’ drive from the port. The first choice suits those who want to leave their car on day one and never touch it again; the second suits those seeking silence, distant views and the space of a villa.
Waterside, Brando lines pebble beaches at Erbalunga itself and towards Lavasina, the neighbouring pilgrimage hamlet. For sand, you head up the Cap road towards the north: Pietracorbara opens a long family beach, and higher still the coastline curves into discreet coves reached on foot or by boat. Bastia is some ten kilometres south, which settles the question of arrivals, the port and shopping without ever bringing the town into your stay. A slate-built port, a ruined tower, and nothing that hurries
Erbalunga does not sprawl; it pulls inward: it is one of the rare Corsican villages where the sea reaches the foot of the houses, and where you want to sit and look at it.
A former fishing village that became the harbour of Brando, Erbalunga has kept its original character: slate, from which its houses, quays, roofs and the 16th-century Genoese tower closing the port point are made. This tower, built of slate and cipolin, has been a listed monument since 1995; it is ruined, open to the wind, and it is precisely this that makes it beautiful. Behind it, a few paved alleyways, the Church of Saint Erasmus (1862) dedicated to the protector of sailors, and the Benedictine convent. Painters understood it before anyone else: from the inter-war period onwards, the village attracted enough studios to earn it the nickname the painters’ nest, or the Collioure of Cape Corse.
Village life still follows its rituals. On Good Friday, the A Cerca procession brings together the confraternities of the commune and leads the faithful from church to church through the hamlets of Brando over more than 12km, before the nocturnal granitula: it is one of the most intense moments of Holy Week in Corsica. In summer, the open-air theatre takes over with a music festival in mid-August, which has programmed major names from the French music scene since 1989, and a comedy festival in mid-July. The rest of the time, nothing happens, and that is the point. High summer at water’s edge, off-season on the trails of the Cape
The height of summer
You swim from the pebbles of Erbalunga and Lavasina, head up towards the sand of Pietracorbara, and take the boat to the Cape’s coves, those without roads. Days are ruled by the light: sea in the morning, siesta in the shade, aperitif on the port as the tower turns pink, dinner of fish and Corsican charcuterie. In mid-August, the open-air theatre fills the evenings, as do the village terraces.
Off-season
In spring, the maquis flowers and Holy Week awakens the hamlets; in September, the sea stays warm long after the crowds leave, and the Lavasina procession gathers the faithful on the beach. This is the season for coastal trails and the perched villages of the Cape, for corniche roads heading north, for local wine producers and finally available tables. Erbalunga returns to what it is for the rest of the year: an inhabited port.

Should you stay in the harbour or in the Brando heights?
In the harbour, everything is on foot: the port, the alleyways, the church, the evening tables. As the village is very compact, you find mostly village houses and apartments here, with little outdoor space. On the heights, in the Brando hamlets overlooking the sea, you gain land, a terrace, a pool and distant views, at the cost of a few minutes’ drive down to the port. Families and groups most often settle on the heights; couples often prefer the harbour.
Can you swim at Erbalunga itself, or must you find sand elsewhere?
You can swim on site: the Brando coastline, at Erbalunga and towards Lavasina, consists of pebble beaches, with very clear water and easy access from the village. For sand, you head up the Cape road towards the north, where Pietracorbara offers a large family beach. The most discreet coves of the Cape are reached by boat or coastal trails, and deserve a half-day visit.
What is the best period for a stay in Erbalunga?
July and August for the sea and the atmosphere, with the open-air theatre festivals animating the evenings, knowing that the village is small and fills up quickly. June and September are the best compromise: pleasant water, superb light, Cape villages returned to their calm. Spring suits those coming for the maquis, coastal hiking and heritage, with Holy Week and the A Cerca procession as its high point.

Stays are booked by the week, Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday depending on the property. You choose your week on the calendar, send your request, and our team confirms availability. Booking is done online, with secure payment and the option to pay in instalments.
What capacity for a family or group?

How does arrival work?
You are welcomed by a local partner agency present on site, who carries out the inventory and passes on practical information to you. For some properties, autonomous arrival can be arranged on request.
