Courchevel Moriond stretches across a broad plateau at 1650m, facing due south on the road connecting Courchevel Village to 1850. The snow front, at the foot of the Ariondaz cable car, houses the shops, ski schools and terraces: it is the obvious address to put on your skis at the door and return without a shuttle in the evening. Just above, the Belvédère district offers the same return on skis via the green run of the same name, with more peace and far-reaching views over the Bozel valley. Petit Moriond, a few minutes’ walk from the lifts, suits more discreet stays. The chalets clinging to the high road, on the 1850 side, add intimacy and height of view, provided you accept a shuttle or car to reach the start of the slopes.
The right neighbourhood depends chiefly on your rhythm. With young children or beginner skiers, stay closest to Ariondaz: the green runs lead directly back to the village and the days unfold without logistical fuss. For a more contemplative stay, Belvédère and the high road offer morning-to-evening sun, and silence into the bargain. Free shuttles connect all the Courchevel villages throughout the day and much of the night, down to Saint-Bon, the original village of the commune, lower in the valley. Courchevel Moriond (1650), the south-facing balcony of the Trois Vallées
A plateau facing due south, where the light lasts from the first coffee of the morning to the last descent of the day.
Moriond owes almost everything to its orientation. The village is built on a slope bathed in sunlight, which gives it the finest exposure of the six Courchevel villages: light enters the apartments in the early morning and lingers on the terraces until late afternoon. The history began lower down. Saint-Bon, the original village of the commune, has retained its houses of stone and wood, its barn-stables and its 17th-century Baroque church, protected as a listed monument and inscribed on the Chemins du Baroque. It was from this agricultural valley floor that the resort we know today emerged gradually over the 20th century.
Today, Moriond cultivates a distinctly more relaxed tone than its neighbour 1850, without any compromise on access to the slopes. Families ski here, lunch in the sun at Bel Air at the top of Ariondaz, come down by the toboggan run, and evenings are spent around the tables and bars of the snow front rather than browsing shop windows. Courchevel holds the Famille Plus label, and here it reads less in the brochures than in daily life: crèche, ski schools, play areas, gentle runs that are forgiving. Winter
The Moriond sector has 5 green runs, 14 blue, 8 red and 1 black: rare terrain for progression, where you move from snowplough to the first carved turn without changing valleys. The Ariondaz cable car departs from the snow front and rises to Mont Bel Air at 2048m, from where you descend to the Signal, Bosses and Praméruel sectors, then to 1850 and the rest of the Trois Vallées with their 600km of pistes. The return to the village is entirely green, via Petites Bosses, Praline or Belvédère, and the blue of the Indians winds through the trees. At the top of Ariondaz, the Western Ski Park keeps children entertained; the Moriond Racing toboggan run, 3km with 8 tunnels, brings everyone back to the village, including a roundabout and double chicane.
Summer
In summer, the Ariondaz cable car reopens and gives access to the alpine meadows within minutes. From Moriond, trails depart towards the Combe des Roches leading to Petit Mont Blanc at 2680m, one of the finest viewpoints in Vanoise, and a farm restaurant welcomes walkers near the top. Courchevel maintains over 100km of marked mountain-bike trails, from rolling forest paths to challenging descents, and easy walks such as the Cascade des Poux are suitable for families. Between Courchevel Village and Moriond, the Aquamotion water complex, one of Europe’s largest mountain leisure facilities of its kind, saves a rainy day or a particularly hot afternoon. For open-air bathing, Lac du Praz and Lac de la Rosière are minutes away.

Is Moriond suitable for beginners and advanced skiers?
Both, and that is precisely its particularity. The sector is mostly green and blue, you return to the village entirely on green runs, and the play areas at the top of Ariondaz build confidence in children. Advanced skiers, meanwhile, take the same cable car: via Signal and Praméruel, they reach 1850 then the whole of the Trois Vallées during the morning. A single lift, two levels of ambition.
Is Courchevel Moriond (1650) worth visiting in summer?
Yes, and its exposure is even more pleasant there than in winter. The Ariondaz cable car runs in peak season and opens directly on to the alpine meadows, with the climb to Petit Mont Blanc at 2680m for seasoned walkers. The rest comes down to the marked mountain-bike domain, the valley lakes for bathing and Aquamotion, close by, between Courchevel Village and Moriond.
