At 2300m, Val Thorens makes no compromise with the mountain: it occupies Europe’s highest point.
Born in the early 1970s at the foot of the Belleville valley, the resort was conceived from the outset as an integrated whole, where you reach the pistes without ever returning to your car. This logic remains its signature: a compact village, without traffic cluttering it, backed by the Péclet glacier and open to the summits. The terrain is expansive and mineral, and the altitude light gives the days a particular clarity, from first light on the peaks to late afternoons tinged with pink.
This elevation has a concrete consequence: the snow holds, and the season lasts. Val Thorens counts among the most reliable resorts in the French Alps, and its altitude has fostered a genuine culture of fine dining at altitude, including a Michelin-listed address. Val Thorens, from one season to the next
Winter
It is the resort’s raison d’être. Val Thorens opens the door to the Trois Vallées, the world’s largest connected ski area, with 600km of runs, of which approximately 150km across its own sector. The Péclet glacier and the heights of Cime Caron, above 3200m, guarantee exceptional snow cover, and the altitude offers one of the longest seasons in the Alps, from late November to mid-May. Advanced skiers and families alike find immense, perfectly connected terrain here.
Summer
Val Thorens also opens a brief summer season, in July and August. The resort becomes a high-altitude base camp, cool when the plains swelter: hiking on the trails of the Belleville valley, mountain biking, paragliding, scenic lift access to panoramas and Cime Caron. It is a more intimate interlude than winter, turned towards fresh air and mountain calm, with cool mornings and evenings to prepare for.

Which quarter should you choose in Val Thorens?
It depends on your priority. The Balcons, in the upper part, are calm, residential and offer the finest views. Plein Sud is the most sunlit sector. The centre, around the Grande Rue and the Soleil quarter, puts shops and restaurants at your door, while Péclet gives very direct piste access. As the resort is pedestrian and served by free shuttles, no quarter is truly remote. Tell us your rhythm, and we will guide you to the right location.
Can you really ski from your accommodation?
This is one of Val Thorens’s great strengths: conceived as an integrated resort, it allows, for many properties, to reach the pistes directly from your residence and return with skis on. The level of access varies from property to property. Tell us if true ski-in ski-out is a priority, and we will filter our selection accordingly.
Is Val Thorens worth visiting in summer?
Yes, but in a different spirit. The summer season is short, concentrated in July and August, and the offer remains more confidential than in winter. At 2300m, you come for the cool, hiking on the trails of the Belleville valley, mountain biking, paragliding and high-altitude panoramas. Mornings and evenings remain cool. It is a destination for fresh air and calm, rather than an animated summer resort.
How does booking work?
Stays are reserved by the week, Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday depending on the property. You select your week on the calendar, send your request, and our team confirms availability. Booking is conducted online, with secure payment and the option to settle in instalments.
What capacity for a family or group?
Our selection ranges from apartments for a few to large chalets for the whole extended family. For a large group or specific request, write to us: we also work with off-market properties.
How does arrival on site work?
You are welcomed by a local partner agency present on site, who conducts the check-in and provides practical information. For certain properties, autonomous arrival can be arranged on request.
