Renting in Tignes

Rent a chalet or apartment in Tignes with AEC Collection

Tignes is not a resort but a inhabited valley, a succession of tiered villages descending along the water. At the top, Val Claret (2150m) and Le Lac (2100m) form the beating heart: shops, activity, ski access and direct entry to the domain. Le Lavachet, one level lower and quieter, shares the same lake. On the valley road, Tignes 1800, formerly Les Boisses, cultivates the air of a contemporary wooden and stone hamlet, whilst Les Brévières (1550m), the lowest, preserves the soul of an old Savoyard village.

The right neighbourhood depends on how you ski and spend your evenings. To be closest to the lifts and atmosphere, aim for Le Lac or Val Claret. For a quieter pace, simpler parking and a village atmosphere, head down to Tignes 1800 or Les Brévières, connected to the domain by shuttles and pistes. Tell us how you spend your holidays, and we will direct you to the right neighbourhood. Stays are booked by the week, the calendar and availability shown are real, and booking is done online.

The spirit of Tignes

A resort born of altitude

In Tignes, everything unfolds above the tree line, in a mineral landscape where snow lasts and the season stretches long.

Tignes owes its character to its height. The old valley village disappeared beneath the waters of a dam in the 1950s, and the resort rebuilt itself higher up, facing the Grande Motte glacier. From this history emerged a place resolutely turned towards skiing, designed for high-altitude mountains rather than postcard appeal. People come for the space, clear light and certainty of snow.

Here, you ski between 1550m and over 3450m, on a domain almost entirely above the forests. This altitude is Tignes’s signature: reliable snow cover, ski-in access, wide open horizons and a season that starts early and finishes late. Our chalets and apartments are chosen for location, view and piste access.

Through the year

Two seasons, one altitude

Winter

Tignes shares with Val d’Isère the domain formerly called Espace Killy, over 300km of connected pistes between 1550m and 3450m. The high point, the Grande Motte glacier, reaches 3456m, accessed from Val Claret by an underground funicular then a cable car. High-altitude domain almost entirely above the trees: snow stays fine for a long time, and the sectors, from Tovière to Grande Motte, offer terrain for all levels.

Summer

In summer, Tignes’s natural lake (2100m) becomes the centre of the resort: cool swimming, paddleboarding, walking round the lake. Nearby, the Vanoise offers high-altitude hikes and one of the largest bike parks in the Alps awaits mountain bikers. When conditions permit, the Grande Motte glacier opens for a few weeks of summer skiing, in the mornings, a rare privilege in the Alps.

Frequently asked questions

Renting in Tignes: what you ask us

Which neighbourhood to choose in Tignes?

To be at the foot of the pistes and near the action, aim for Le Lac or Val Claret, the two highest villages. For a quieter, more village-like stay, Tignes 1800 and Les Brévières, lower in the valley, remain connected to the domain by shuttles and skiing. Le Lavachet offers a good compromise, close to the lake and slightly quieter than Le Lac.

How long can you ski in Tignes?

Thanks to its altitude and the Grande Motte glacier, Tignes boasts one of the longest seasons in the Alps. In winter, the domain opens early and closes late; in early summer, the glacier welcomes a few weeks of skiing, in the morning, when conditions allow. Dates change each year depending on snowfall.

Is Tignes worth a summer stay?

Yes. The lake at 2100m, the Vanoise hikes, a very large mountain biking domain and, certain weeks, summer skiing on the glacier make Tignes a genuine high-altitude destination in summer. The air is crisp, landscapes mineral and days long, far from the crowds of major summer destinations.

How does the booking process work?

Stays are booked by the week, Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday depending on the property. You select your week on the calendar, submit your request, and our team confirms availability. Booking is done online, with secure payment and the option to pay in instalments.

What capacity for a family or group?

Our selection ranges from apartments for a few to large chalets for a whole group. For a large party or specific request, write to us: we also compose stays with off-market properties.

How does arrival on site work?

You are welcomed by a local partner agency on site, who carries out the handover and passes on practical information. For certain properties, self-check-in can be arranged on request.

« In Tignes, location is everything. We choose each property by demanding quality criteria, for view, tranquility and piste access. »
