Luberon reads like a succession of perched villages, each with its own character. Gordes, clinging to dry-stone rock, overlooks the valley and remains the most emblematic. Roussillon plays the ochre card, its façades revived from yellow to red, starting from the famous ochre trail. Ménerbes stretches through the vineyards, a village of artists. Bonnieux lines narrow streets and panoramas at the foot of the Cedar forest. Further south, Lourmarin, less spectacular but more inhabited, brings together cafés in the shade of plane trees, shops and a Renaissance château. Around it, the countryside unfolds olives, rows of vines and stone farmhouses.
The choice depends on your preference. To live in the heart of a village and reach the market on foot, aim for Gordes, Roussillon or Lourmarin. For absolute peace, a farmhouse isolated amongst olives and vines, pool overlooking the massif, in the countryside around Ménerbes, Bonnieux or Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is preferable. Families and large gatherings seek rather spacious villas with shaded outdoor space, summer kitchen and pool away from prying eyes. Provence at the height of dry stone
Here, luxury is a matter of light, silence and time slowing down.
Luberon is a massif and a regional natural park, a land of ochre and limestone where man has built low, in dry stone, to follow the relief. Villages have perched on their ridges for centuries, ringed by vines, olives and lavender fields, like those that wave before the Abbey of Sénanque, still inhabited by its Cistercian monks. Further on, the ochre cliffs of Roussillon and the Provençal Colorado of Rustrel offer almost Martian landscapes, whilst Fontaine-de-Vaucluse lets its emerald-green waters spring forth at the foot of the rock.
It is an interior Provence, without a seaside façade, lived to the rhythm of markets and cicadas. Lourmarin, where Albert Camus rests, says enough about the taste for inhabited calm that writers and painters have long sought. One comes for wine, food and slowness, rather than agitation. Brilliant summer, luminous autumn
High summer
Lavender in bloom from late June to mid-July, markets overflowing with melons, apricots and olive oil, and long days spent between the pool and the shade of plane trees. Head to Apt market on Saturday, one of the largest in Provence, or Lourmarin market on Friday beneath the plane trees, then dine outdoors to the song of cicadas, a glass of Luberon wine in hand.
Between seasons
In spring and autumn, the heat becomes mild and villages regain their calm. It is the season for hiking in the massif up to Mourre Nègre, the highest point at 1125m, rambles in the Cedar forest and along the ochre trails, cycling loops around Luberon. Autumn adds the grape harvest and colours, when Isle-sur-la-Sorgue continues to line up its antique dealers on Sunday.

Which village or area to choose in Luberon?
It all depends on the atmosphere you seek. Gordes and Roussillon for the most spectacular perched villages and market life on foot, Lourmarin for its inhabited atmosphere and restaurants, Ménerbes and Bonnieux for the countryside of vines and olives. For a stay in the green, you venture away from the villages towards the isolated farmhouses around Isle-sur-la-Sorgue or Apt. Tell us what you like, and we point you towards the right area.
Can one find villas with pool and plenty of privacy?
Yes, it is even the signature of the region: stone farmhouses and villas nestled in the countryside, pool away from prying eyes, shaded terraces and views of the hills or massif. Some properties are in complete peace just minutes from a village and its market. Tell us the number of bedrooms and the level of seclusion desired, and we refine the selection.
What is the best time for a stay in Luberon?
Summer offers lavender, full markets and long evenings by the pool, with high numbers in July and August. Spring and autumn are ideal for hiking, cycling and discovering villages in calm, under soft light. Late June and September often bring the best of both: pleasant warmth and peaceful villages.
How does the booking process work?
Stays are booked by the week, Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday depending on the properties. You choose your week on the calendar, send your enquiry, and our team confirms availability. Booking is done online, with secure payment and the option to pay in instalments.
What capacity for a family or group?
Our selection ranges from apartments for a few people to large villas for an entire clan. For a large group or specific request, write to us: we also compose with off-market properties.
How does arrival on site work?
You are welcomed by a local partner agency present on site, who carries out the check-in and passes on practical information to you. For certain properties, autonomous arrival can be arranged on request.
