Higher up, the Champagny-le-Haut valley changes register. A natural site preserved at the gates of Vanoise National Park, it appeals to those seeking silence, vast landscapes and immediate proximity to the trails. Between the two, the hamlets with slate roofs and stone walls retain the air of a true Tarentaise village. Depending on whether you prioritise access to the slopes or peace facing the glaciers, the ideal address is not the same. A Tarentaise village that has remained true to itself

Champagny long lived from its alpine pastures and herds. The turn towards snow only came in the 1950s, and the village has retained from its agricultural past a human scale, stone façades and a baroque church, Saint-Sigismond, whose gilded altarpiece bears witness to the Savoyard fervour of old.
What truly sets Champagny apart is this dual nature: one foot in one of the world’s largest ski domains, the other in a national park whose protection covers nearly half of the commune’s territory. You ski in the morning on a sunny slope, you walk in the afternoon facing the Grand Bec and its glaciers. Two seasons, two ways of living in the mountains
Winter
From the village, the cable car swings onto the La Plagne domain in a few minutes, gateway to Paradiski and its 425km of slopes connecting La Plagne and Les Arcs. Champagny’s sunny slope lines a snow garden and gentle runs for beginners and those progressing, whilst experienced skiers head off towards the domain’s great itineraries and ski touring routes. A rare balance for families with mixed abilities.
Summer
In summer, Champagny-le-Haut becomes a starting point for high mountain exploration. The glaciological trail sets off from Laisonnay, the Py waterfall marks the climb towards the Plaisance refuge, and the Grand Bec massif unfolds its glaciers. Hiking, alpine pastures and wildlife from Vanoise National Park comprise a lush season in its own right, away from the hustle.

Is Champagny suitable for families and experienced skiers alike?
Yes. The sunny slope of the village, with its snow garden and gentle runs, is ideal for learning and progressing. As the resort is linked to Paradiski, experienced skiers have access to the 425km of La Plagne and Les Arcs. Everyone skis at their own pace and meets up in the village in the evening.
Is Champagny-en-Vanoise worth a stay in summer?
Entirely. The Champagny-le-Haut valley, a natural site preserved at the gates of Vanoise National Park, is exceptional hiking terrain: glaciological trail, Py waterfall, Plaisance refuge and views over the Grand Bec and its glaciers. The village, quieter than in winter, retains its Savoyard authenticity and baroque church.
