Towards the lift access, the Bergers neighbourhood lines up more recent residences, ski-in access, with its own shops and restaurants within steps of the slopes.
L’Éclose, one of the last neighbourhoods built, stands a little apart and remains peaceful outside school holidays, connected to the ski area by its lift. Further down, the hamlet of Villard-Reculas offers a village pause for those seeking silence whilst remaining connected to the slopes. The island in the sun, perched above Oisans
Few resorts carry a nickname: Alpe d’Huez is the island in the sun, a balcony bathed in light in the heart of the Grandes Rousses massif.
Before it became a resort, the Alpe was merely a hamlet of some thirty chalets, occupied in summer for the mountain pastures and asleep under snow all winter. From the 1930s onwards, the mountain developed without a master plan: it is this that gives it today its patchwork appearance, where traditional chalets, characterful hotels and timber-clad buildings respond to one another across the neighbourhoods.
Perched at 1860m, the resort cultivates the reputation for sunshine that built its legend, and a dual life: a temple of skiing in winter, a hub for cycling in summer. It is a place that lives intensely, never losing sight of its pastoral origins. Our chalets and apartments are chosen for location, view and immediate proximity to the slopes and centre.
Skiing in winter, the 21 hairpins in summer
Winter
Connected to four neighbouring villages, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany, Villard-Reculas and Auris-en-Oisans, the Grandes Rousses domain spreads across nearly 250km of pistes. From Pic Blanc, the summit at 3330m, the view spans the Alps, from Mont-Blanc to Ventoux, before dropping onto the Sarenne, one of the longest black runs in the Alps at more than 16km of descent. Beginners and intermediates progress on the Signal and Grandes Rousses sectors, whilst the heart of the resort gathers après-ski.
Summer
In summer, Alpe d’Huez becomes a world cycling destination: its 21 hairpins, climbed by the greatest Tour de France champions, form one of the most legendary ascents there is, continuously timed for those wishing to test themselves against the gradient. Mountain bikers descend the bike-park and the legendary Mégavalanche, whilst walkers reach the mountain lakes via the Ronde des Lacs, around Lac Besson, or ascend Pic Blanc by cable car for the panorama.

Can you stay with ski-in access?
Yes. Several neighbourhoods, notably Bergers, L’Éclose and certain addresses in Vieil Alpe, provide direct access to the lifts and pistes. This is a point we verify with you before selecting a property, as the definition of ski-in access varies considerably from one residence to another.
Is Alpe d’Huez worth a summer stay?
Entirely. Alpe d’Huez is as much a summer resort as a winter one: its 21 hairpins make it a cycling destination, its bike-park attracts mountain bikers, and its mountain lakes, connected by the Ronde des Lacs, lend themselves to family hiking. The Pic Blanc cable car leads to the viewpoint at 3330m, one of the most expansive in the Alps.
How does booking work?
Stays are reserved by the week, Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday depending on the property. You select your week on the calendar, send your request, and our team confirms availability. Booking is done online, with secure payment and the option to pay in instalments.
What capacity for a family or group?
Our selection ranges from apartments for a few to large chalets for the whole party. For a larger group or specific request, write to us: we also curate off-market properties.
How does arrival on site work?
You are welcomed by a local partner agency present on site, who conduct the check-in and provide you with practical information. For certain properties, an independent arrival can be arranged on request.
