Megève Ice Rink

6 min read

In Megève, there are two ways to skate. Under the roof of the Palais, the Olympic ice rink opens its public sessions in the afternoon, and mornings during the festive period. Outside, in the heart of the village, an outdoor ice rink remains lit until 19:30 throughout winter. Around these two rinks revolve curling, eisstock, Mont-Blanc Yetis match evenings and a few programmes designed for children. Here are the opening hours for the 2026-2027 season, the rules to know and the calendar of ice events.

The ice rink in practice

  • Two ice rinks: the covered Olympic ice rink, at the Palais, 247 route du Palais des Sports; the outdoor ice rink, in the heart of the village.
  • Olympic ice rink: public sessions from September 2026 to 25 April 2027, in the afternoon; also mornings, 10:00 to 12:00, from 19 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, except Fridays.
  • Outdoor rink: from 5 December 2026 to 7 March 2027; every day from 13:30 to 19:30 from 19 December onwards. Session cancelled in bad weather.
  • Equipment: skate rental on site; gloves and helmet recommended, helmet not mandatory.
  • Information: central cashdesks of the Palais de Megève, open every day from 08:30 to 20:00.

The Palais Olympic ice rink

The covered ice at the Palais welcomes both the public, clubs and competitions. Public sessions are open to all, including beginners. During the Christmas holidays, from 19 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, the rink opens from 10:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 17:00, Friday afternoon only, with two exceptional closures on 23 and 30 December. From 4 January to 5 February 2027, sessions take place every day from 15:00 to 17:00; during the winter holidays, from 6 February to 7 March, they begin from 14:00. The rink remains open every afternoon until 25 April 2027, with a few days of closure in March and April to be confirmed before visiting.

Skates are available to rent on site, and personal code lockers allow you to leave your belongings. The Palais recommends gloves and helmet: the latter is not mandatory, but strongly recommended. The Palais also notes access to the rink via automatic gate and a specific wheelchair to access the ice, to be requested from staff.

The outdoor ice rink, at the heart of the village

In winter, a second rink is set up outside, at the centre of the village: 1,600 square metres of surface according to the tourist office. You can skate in the afternoon sunshine, then at nightfall under the village lights. It opens on 5 December 2026, initially Tuesday and Friday from 16:00 to 19:00, Wednesday and weekends from 13:30 to 19:30. From 19 December 2026 to 7 March 2027, it welcomes skaters every day from 13:30 to 19:30. On 24 and 31 December, it closes at 19:00; on 25 December and 1 January, it opens from 14:00. In bad weather, the session is cancelled.

Curling and eisstock: ice differently

The Palais has a curling rink, 44.50 metres long and 4.75 metres wide. Two options exist. Tuition, by reservation only, is practised in groups from three people, from 15 September 2026 to 28 April 2027. Curling discovery is a 45-minute session, from 11 years old, on Tuesdays at 10:00 and 11:00, from 22 December 2026 to 30 March 2027: you learn the delivery and attempt to place your stone closest to the target.

Eisstock applies the rules of bowls on ice, without skates. Accessible from 7 years old, it is available year-round on demand, subject to availability, for a birthday or group activity.

Match evenings and major events

The Olympic ice rink is one of two rinks for the Mont-Blanc Yetis, a club born from the merger of the ice hockey clubs of Saint-Gervais and Megève, which competes in Division 1. Matches in Megève start at 19:30, with a bar and light refreshments. During the winter season, the Palais notably announces Mont-Blanc versus Lyon on 22 December 2026, a gala match on 29 December, then Nantes on 12 January, Chambéry on 19 January, Tours on 16 February and Épinal on 27 February 2027. The full calendar is published on the club website.

Other events mark the season:

  • Jardin de la glisse: the rink is reserved for children under 10 years accompanied by an adult, on Sundays 6 December 2026, 17 January and 14 February 2027, from 10:00 to 12:00.
  • Soirée givrée: an evening on ice on Wednesdays 17 and 24 February 2027, from 19:30 to 22:30.
  • France Figure Skating Championship: a circuit stage on 14 and 15 November 2026, with skaters from across France.

The AEC tip. For a first skate with young children, aim for a Sunday at Jardin de la glisse: the ice is reserved for them. During the festive period, the 10:00 session at the Olympic rink allows you to skate in the morning and keep the afternoon for skiing. And for a match evening, book your seats in advance during the holidays.

Where to stay

The Palais and the outdoor ice rink are both at the heart of the village: a chalet or flat in the centre allows you to reach the ice on foot. The Palais car park is paid, but blue zones surround it. Under the same roof as the rink, the aquatic space and wellness area at the Palais offers water between 32 and 34°C after the ice. For the rest of winter, see our guide What to do in Megève in winter and our page on the Megève ski domain. Our agents can advise you according to your party: find our chalets and flats in Megève.

The scrape of blades on ice, the village lights coming on above the rink, a hot chocolate on the way back: in Megève, the end of day is spent on ice too.
