Aquariaz in Avoriaz: a tropical park at 29°C at 1,800m altitude

Aquariaz is a tropical water park located in the heart of Avoriaz, at 1,800m altitude. An almost unique feature for a ski resort: water heated to 29°C in a jungle setting, with genuine tropical vegetation (palms, tree ferns, hibiscus).

A tropical park at 1,800m

Opened in 2012, Aquariaz was conceived to offer families an alternative activity to skiing. The concept is unique: to recreate a tropical ecosystem in the heart of the Alps, accessible from the ski runs themselves (entrance near the Amara residence).

The space, designed by Jacques Labro, is housed beneath a red cedar frame pierced with large glazed panels. The air temperature is maintained at approximately 30°C, the water temperature at 29°C, creating a striking contrast with the cold outside.

The attractions

The park comprises several zones:

A current river flowing between rocks and vegetation.

The Slidewinder, a 10m half-pipe slide descended on a ring.

A climbing wall above the pool.

A heated outdoor jacuzzi at 33°C, with mountain views.

A heated beach with hot tubs and a relaxation area.

The water tree, featuring geysers, small slides and a heated paddling pool at 32°C for younger children.

Genuine tropical vegetation

This is the distinguishing feature of the place: the vegetation is not plastic. More than 1,570 plants, including 183 trees and over 260 species, sourced from a Thai nursery. You will find banana plants, dwarf palms, hibiscus, tree ferns and bromeliads. The immersive effect is complete, particularly when it snows outside.

Pricing and access

Entry is complimentary once daily for MultiPass Avoriaz holders. It is free for children under three.

Access is on foot from Avoriaz town centre, or on skis from the slopes. For visitors staying in Morzine, allow for the Prodains cable car (less than 5 minutes), then a few minutes’ walk.

Who it is designed for

Aquariaz is aimed primarily at:

Families with children, who alternate skiing and tropical bathing in the same day.

Non-skiers accompanying a ski holiday, who find a substantial indoor activity here.

Skiers recovering after an intensive morning on the slopes.

Opening times

Aquariaz opens in the afternoon during the winter season (mid-December to mid-April), closed on Saturdays except in exceptional circumstances. Busy periods coincide with poor weather. It is preferable to visit early afternoon.
