Ghjunchitu: the Balagne beach accessible on foot from Bodri

Updated on 5 October 2026 3 min read

The beach of Ghjunchitu is not located exactly at L’Île-Rousse, but in the neighbouring commune of Corbara, approximately 5 kilometres by road. This geographical distinction matters: the beach forms part of a sequence of Balagne beaches (Bodri, Ghjunchitu, the marine de Davia) best understood as a collective rather than isolated sites.

01

A 500-metre beach of pale sand

Ghjunchitu stretches approximately 500 metres of pale sand, framed by maquis and rocky outcrops. The gradient is gentle, the water shelves gradually, making the beach particularly suited to families with children and swimmers who prefer an accessible entry without abrupt transitions.

The seabed is conducive to snorkelling, with clear visibility and varied marine life near the lateral rocks, without reaching the richness of natural reserves such as Scandola.

02

Access: why one must walk

Access by car is from L’Île-Rousse via the T30 in the direction of Calvi. There are two paid car parks in season: one on the Bodri side, the other at the southern point of Ghjunchitu.

Walking time varies depending on which car park you choose. From the Bodri car park, allow 5 minutes on foot to reach Bodri beach, then 5 to 10 minutes further along the coastal path to reach Ghjunchitu. From the second car park, access is direct.

The other option, more typical, is the Trinichellu, the little Corsican train, which serves the Balagne beaches from L’Île-Rousse. This is the simplest access for those wishing to avoid parking constraints in July, August.

03

Uses: more than a beach

Beyond swimming, the rocks at either end lend themselves to snorkelling. Two beach restaurants open in season.

04

The broader context: the Balagne beaches

Ghjunchitu is part of a beach area that extends beyond itself. On foot via the coastal path, one easily connects to Bodri to the north and the marine de Davia. Further afield by road, the beach of Lozari offers a different setting, longer and more exposed to wind.

For a stay at L’Île-Rousse, it is better to view these beaches as a circuit and alternate according to wind, crowds and preference.

05

When to visit

High season concentrates visitors, particularly between mid-July and mid-August. On days of strong westerly wind (libeccio), Ghjunchitu can be uncomfortable, as the beach is more exposed than other corners of Balagne. The shoulder seasons, June and September, offer water still warm and considerably fewer crowds.
